I'm John — a photographer and filmmaker based in Louisville. I work in what I call a "memory" style: candid, natural, the kind of image that feels less like a photo and more like remembering.
I don't stage much. I don't pose much. I look for the small things: a look across the room, a hand on a shoulder, the way the light lands on a face when nobody's thinking about the camera. The point of a photograph, to me, is that it brings you back.
Most of my work is weddings, but not all of it. I shoot families, engagements, anniversaries, life events, and personal projects when they come my way. If you have something you want documented, I'm happy to talk.
I run Blue River Weddings out of Louisville. I've been working behind a camera since 2024 — first for friends and family, now full-time. I'm at my best in unscripted moments, with people who care more about how a photo feels than how it looks.
Natural. Unscripted. Felt.
Three words I keep coming back to: candid, memory, real.
Candid
I want the photo that happens, not the photo you set up. There's no "everyone smile at me." There's just me, watching for the real moment.
Memory
The goal is a picture you can look at twenty years from now and feel what you felt. Not a perfect picture. A real one.
Real
Natural light. Real locations. People in whatever they want to wear. No heavy editing that strips out the texture of the day.
Quiet
I work without making a scene. You won't see me running around with a flash. You will, however, see me crouched in a corner waiting for the laugh.
If it matters to you, it's worth documenting.
Weddings are the biggest slice of my work, but not all of it.
Weddings
The main thing. Both photos and video, delivered together. From the planning coffee to the last dance.
Engagements
Getting-ready moments, the proposal, the first portrait together. A few hours, somewhere you actually like.
Families & kids
At home, in the park, in your kitchen with your dog underfoot. The messy years are the ones you'll miss most.
Anniversaries
10 years, 25 years, "we just renewed our vows." A short session, often at the same place you got married.
Personal projects
Documentary, portraits, your band, your business, your coffee shop, your day in the life. If it has meaning, I want to shoot it.
Commercial / small business
Brand portraits, product photography, restaurant interiors. Real images, not stock-cliché marketing.
